Stressed or feeling anxious?  Try these 5 easy relaxation tips.

Smile EVEN if you don’t feel happy- instead of frowning or clenching your jaw

Go outside face the sun and breathe in and out 10 times.  Sit up straight or stand barefoot on the grass or touch a plant while you are doing this.

Aromatherapy is always a quick and easy way to change your focus and is very calming. My favourites are orange blossom, rose and sandalwood.

Close your eyes and visualize an escape from a stressful situation for just a few minutes.  Think of your favourite place where you have felt very calm and grounded and go on a mini break in your mind.

Tense and relax all your muscles three times and as you exhale let out a loud sigh, then stretch your neck side to side, lift your arms and take a big yawn.

 

5 Basic Yoga Postures to de-stress

Start with standing and being grounded and shake your body gently. 

Half moon- Bring your feet together and bring your hands together over your head, tilt side to side, staying on the right side for 6 breaths and then to the left for 6 breaths.

Chair pose- Separate your feet 6 inches apart and extend your arms straight out parallel to the floor and imagine sitting in a chair hold for 6 breaths, engage your core.

michele-labelle-yoga-poses-3Spinal stretch- Lying on the floor with arms parallel to the shoulders bend knees and bring them up to your belly, slowly rotate your knees to right on the floor and relax feet, legs and back completely turn head to the left and repeat on the other side.

 

 

michele-labelle-yoga-poses-2Shavasana- Relax entire body on the floor place a pillow under the knees to support your lower back, turn off your phone and visualize yourself in a wonderful place in your mind and focus only on your breathing
